Unemployed Namibians Invited to Karibib Gemstone Training

16th June, 2025

Namibia strives to be one of the competitive economies in the SADC region with its industrialization ambition spelled out in the National Development Plans (NDPs) towards Vision 2030.

Namibia’s industrial policy and its implementation strategy, “Growth at Home,” strive toward a more equitable distribution of income and growing the size of the Namibian economy through enhanced local production and wealth creation.

Small-scale mining serves as a vital sub-sector within Namibia’s broader mining industry, offering a means of sustenance for a significant number of individuals and their families, thereby playing a crucial role in poverty reduction and enhancing living standards. Furthermore, these mining operations generate substantial employment prospects for numerous rural communities across Namibia, particularly in areas rich in gemstone resources.

Therefore, as part of entrepreneurship development and promotion, EMPRETEC Namibia is calling on unemployed youth and women who are interested in being trained in gemstone cutting and polishing. Applications can be downloaded from the Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade’s website or collected at the ministry’s offices in all regions.

Interested applicants who are aged between 18 and 35 years, with a minimum qualification of Grade 8, and basic English communication and mathematics skills, are encouraged to apply before the due date of 27 June 2025.
